Our Story
The ancestry of whiskey distilleries survived the period of prohibition, 1920 through 1933, by having their products sold as a medicinal tonic, a REMEDY for an ailment.
Doctors would have to write a prescription, charging $3, for a person to get a pint of tonic (a REMEDY). Then, pharmacies filled the medicinal tonic prescription for $4. During the 1920’s, $7 would compare to $95 today.
Individuals were allowed a maximum of three prescriptions per month by law for one pint each. It has been estimated that an average of over 11 million prescriptions were written yearly during prohibition for a REMEDY.
